7 secrets to amazing productivity

I have really been productive lately in my business and i want to share a little method that i use to keep my productivity up and to get much more done in a day than i ever used to in several days.

The more you get done quicker the faster good things come to you!

  • The faster your business grows
  • The more people you connect and network with
  • The more time you get to spend enjoying life and NOT working!

There are so many benefits to being productive it’s actually pretty ridiculous! I don’t need to try to convince you that:

“You might want to be productive in life”

If I do need to convince you of that then this blog isn’t for you.  There are so many advantages to being productive in life as a whole and it’s great to see how my life is molding and shaping because of my productive work and consistent hunger and determination to get more done faster.

I have learned a couple techniques that I want to share with you because I think they can help you and your business move forward faster as well.

Out of all the books, courses and content that I have consumed on productivity i would say that these are the most important one’s to keep on track…

  1. Drink enough water! You would be surprised how many people have drained energy and lack of focus because they simply aren’t drinking enough water.  It is the easiest thing to do! all you have to do is keep a glass by your work area and take a sip every 5 minutes or so.  The recommended water intake on a daily basis is 50% of your body weight in ounces each day.  So for example if you weight 150 pounds you want to drink 75 ounces of water each day.  By drinking enough water you will have mental focus and clarity which will allow you to get focused on taking action and moving through the action to action process smoother.  So please just drink enough water! I recommend spring water or purified water and not tap to because it is healthier for your body.
  2. Eat a healthy breakfast - You would be surprised how many people eat a unhealthy breakfast and ask “why don’t i have energy” or why am i feeling tired and restless.  You would be surprised how much better your body operates when you give it the proper nutrition and fuel each day to operate.
  3. Write tasks down! – One of the biggest keys to my productivity is writing down what i need to do for that day.  I simply open notepad or wordpad and type a task on each line.  One of a big name marketers does this and I liked the idea so I picked it up from them.  By writing what you need to get done for that day down you make a mental note of what YOU need to do today.  I personally write everything down in the morning then delete things as i complete them so it get’s me anxious to finish so that i can enjoy the rest of my day either making more progress or relaxing.
  4. Get Rid of Distractions – Your Cell phone, skype, google chat, twitter, facebook chat are all distractions! Turn them off or have a busy or invisible status.  This is still tough for me to do because i connect with a lot of people and love building relationships.  But when you are working work and don’t be distracted by social media and what’s going on with your friends or family unless it’s important! (obviously)
  5. Try to Exercise – In the morning is one of the best times to exercise, the reason why is because it gets your blood moving and get’s your Lymph system moving which allows your body as a whole to feel more awake and have more energy.  In the morning I will sometimes do pushups, go on walks, rollerblade etc.
  6. Focus work in blocks – Your body has different rhythms, the Circadian rythym is a cycle that your body is used to.  The more you mess with this rhythm the more trouble you have focusing and being productive because your body is confused by what you are telling it to do.  You want to focus your work in chunks of time, so for example work for 50 minutes straight.  Focused productive work and then take a 5-7 minute break to relax and re-focus.  By taking breaks you allow yourself to be more focused because you are not messing with your rhythm.  I could get into more detail but just take my word for it Focused blocks of work with small breaks will make you more productive.  Just try it for yourself!
  7. Create productive habits – One of the biggest things that i used to do was have bad habits.  I would just hang out and not work, i would watch movies, go out and never get anything done because i didn’t have habits of working and staying focused on the task at hand.  If you consciously create a habit to do something at a certain time each day and stick to it and add new productive habits like it each day you will turn into a productivity machine!

To sum up this post there are a couple real important points.  The first one is take care of your body, it’s really the only one you will ever have and you have got to take care of your body and treat it as it were… well your only one! The next thing is create habits of writing down what you need to do and create habits to get rid of distractions and focus on working on something until completion.

Take these things that I have learned and Apply them! (I didn’t write this post for myself)

The notepad trick works real well too! try it out!

That’s it for 7 secrets to amazing productivity, I hope that you got a lot out of it and at least took some mental notes!

  • hey David,
true I didn't realize the importance of water either. Though I keep enough in my stockroom, I barely drink it through the day, except with meals. Will keep in mind & pass the info around. Great post, thanx.

  • true... great added tip!
those are really distractions when it comes down to it!

    Thanks for sharing

    David
  • Great Tips! I think I might print these out and post them at my desk too...

Here's another one to add: Get any supplies you'll need so they are within reach. You'll waste time and lose your groove if you are getting up every 5 minutes to grab a pen, get your notes, find your USB key, etc.
  • Thanks Michelle! I appreciate it... hopefully you'll drink more water!

Thanks for the Feedback Britt! I appreciate it as well :)

  • I would have to say eating a healthy breakfast and writing tasks down has made me not only a more organized person, but a happier one. When you eat right you feel more rejuvinated and less fatigued and same goes for when you have less stress, which is why I always need to write tasks down. Also, writing tasks down and then crossing them off once you've completed them lets you see all of the things you have accommplished. It's a great feeling. Thanks for the advice!
  • Great post and great advice. Your point about drinking water--it's SO true. Days when I don't drink enough, I find myself wasting time with email, getting easily distracted, and by 3 pm, I want to take a nap.

    Best, Michelle

  • David,
Thank you for such a valuable article. Right now staying productive and focused is something I have been struggling with, any hints are very helpful. Unemployed, yet with ideas spilling out of my head, I really need to stay on task. But you are right it takes 30 days to change a habit, and I am determined to break my non-productive habit soon.
