I Decided to be a Leader instead of a follower…

I decided to be a Leader.
January 22 in 2009 was the day that will forever change my life.

I was absolutely sick of the Day Job I was at and I knew that I could absolutely crush it in my online business!

I decided to quit my job that day and i have never looked back since.

It was one of those days where you remember everything… every little detail.

I remember how i felt the whole day… and how i felt after i decided I was going to quit my job.

I knew it was a risk… But Everything is a risk in life if you really think about it!

I have found that the number of risks that you take directly relates to the amount of success that you have.

Let me say that again…

“The Number of risks that you take directly relates to the amount of success that you have”

That day… January 22 I Made 2 of the biggest decisions that i will ever make in my life.

The first decision was that I was going to step up to the plate and be the leader that I was before and take it 100% serious.

The second decision was to quit my job and walk away and depend solely on my performance to pay my bills.

Those 2 decisions changed my life.

They will continue to change my life.

What have I learned since then?

If put under pressure I will rise to the challenge and that I also can be a Leader instead of a follower.

It takes Following and leadership qualities to be the best Leader that you can be, But in the eye of everyone else you are either a leader or a follower and you most definitely want to be seen as a Leader.

Today I can only ask you two questions…

Are you a follower or Leader?

Are you taking Risks as often as you can to grow your business?

Answer those questions in your comment below and please Re-tweet this post.

Thanks so much.

  • Great job, David! Being a leader takes stepping out of our comfort zone, at least for some of us, but it is so necessary if we want to change our direction. I quit my job back in 2006. My family thought I was crazy, but it was the right thing for me.

Best wishes to you. I look forward to more of your content.

absolutely awesome!! David you are fantastic!!
  • I remember that day, because I believe that we chatted with each other when it happened. Good for you!

I, on the other hand, loved my job, but was downsized do to a work slow-down.

That said, being laid off did not stop me from forging ahead to create my own goals and destiny.

    Onward & upward, David.

    Let's enjoy this ride together!

  • There's a saying, "You can make progress or you can make excuses, but you can't do both." My saying is,"Procrastination is the killer of dreams".
If there is one thing that is totally responsible for success in anything, it's taking action. There are so many reasons you can come up with why you haven't gone after your dreams, be it your job, your family, your friends, not enough time, not enough money but in the end it all boils down to conviction.
Once you put aside all reasons why you can't do something, you're left naked; the same way you entered this world. But you're in the position where the world of possibilities lie within your grasp.
David, you've had the courage to ignore all the nay-sayers and dream-stealers, and carve your niche in the online world, and that is a commendable accomplishment.
Great luck with all your future endeavors, for I know you have a great career ahead of you.
  • Thank you all for your comments i appreciate them so much!

Thank you Kevin and Chuck both for the encouragement!
  • Hi David,

Saw some of your comments over at Site Fling and now I'm over here. Good for you. Great decicision.

I just received Seth Godin's book "Tribes" yesterday and am reading through that now.

I see you're a fan of Eben Pagan. My all time favorite right there. His knowledge is incredibly deep, far beyond marketing alone.

I see you're also a "local" -- Detroit. I live in Michigan. In South Lyon.

It's great to see Michigan entrepreneurs. We need a lot more of us to turn this state around!

  • spot on with the statement that whenever something is brewing, one is automatically considered a follower until you take initiative and step up to the plate. Most of my life I never really wanted to be bothered with the responsibility of being the leader. Things started changing when I was handed the captain band for my soccer team and the lessons I learned in the period have made me a better man. Nowadays I volunteer to lead, I start things, I come up with innovative ideas...if not these things, what a makes a potential successful entrepreneur eh? nice read David.

  • Eben Pagan definitely is a smart marketer and business thinker Dan... I have learned a lot from him. Michigan definitely does need more entrepreneurs! I agree!

Leading is where it's at... You don't move forward far by being a follower ;)
