Life Lessons from the Cash Cab

A couple days ago i turned on the tv while eating lunch and i flipped the channel to the cash cab.  I started watching it and there were 4 people that got into a cab and all realized that they were in the cash cab and smiled with anticipation to rake in some extra cash.

The show went on and this group of 4 people answered every question correctly.

Let me rephrase that… they answered every answer correctly and almost instantly!

They were on fire! The cash was piling up with every correct answer.

they proceeded to get to the final “Video bonus question” and if you have seen the show before you know what this is.

Basically if you answer the video bonus question correctly you get double your money.

They already had $1,300 by answering every question correctly but they decided to risk it all and go for it.

They heard the question and one of them knew the answer so they told the host their answer.

They were correct so there $1,300 doubled to $2,600.

As the cab stopped at their destination they got out of the cab had a few laughs and walked down the road like “No big deal”

I was surprised that they answered all the questions correctly and got the bonus question correct too.

As the show proceeded I realized that everyone else that got in the cab had a different mentality then the first group.

A MUCH different mindset.

There was a couple and a group of young college girls and both of these groups didn’t do near as well as the first original group.

The couple was unsure about EVERY single question.  They looked at each other with their answers and then took a long time to answer.

The group of young college girls didn’t take the video bonus question and said they were poor so they will just take what they got.

Each group had a different expectation for their results before they even participated in the cash cab and you could tell that.

Here are the two lessons that I learned from watching the show…

  1. Take More Risks – If the second and third group would have taken more risks they probably would have made more money.  They each had lifelines but neither group used all of them if one at all.  The first group didn’t need the lifelines but the second and third groups could have used them and gotten further and made more money if they would have simply utilized what they already had.  A lot of times in life you may think you don’t have much or you need this or that too make it to where you want to be.  Don’t worry about what you don’t have, just focus on what you do have and utilize that to the fullest.
  2. Be Sure of Yourself – The first group was sure of themselves and got to the point.  The second two groups were unsure and didn’t have any confidence behind their answers.  This didn’t affect their answers but lets take their approach and unsure mindset and put it in another situation.  Let’s pretend that these same people were put into a learning environment compared to the first group.  One of them is going to be confident and sure of themselves that they can learn and process this information and the other group is going to be unsure and go into it thinking that they “can’t” do it.  Being sure of yourself and having confidence that you can do something going into it gives you a huge advantage over the unbeliever.  Belief in yourself is one of the most important things that you absolutely need in order to be successful so believe in yourself already!!!

I firmly believe that if you just believe in yourself and take more risks you will be EXTREMELY shocked at what you are capable of and what you can produce.

YOU don’t even know what you are capable yet.

Take care and Take action!
