I just got done reading John Maxwell’s book “The 21 Irrefutable Laws Of Leadership” and I Loved it! The book captured a lot of lessons that leaders need to learn in order to become effective and influential leaders. John also shares that “Everything rises and falls on leadership” and I think that’s so true.

If you are a business owner, entrepreneur and marketer it’s important that you are a leader. Your businesses expansion, growth and even sustainability depends on your leadership ability.

These 21 Laws are great reminders of things to take note of in our life. Below are the 21 Irrefutable laws of leadership from John’s book.

1. The Law of the lid – Leadership ability determines a persons level of effectiveness.

2. The Law of Influence - Leadership is influence, nothing less and nothing more.  Influence come’s from learning and experience.  You don’t have to be old to have experience by the way! start today and fail fast!

3. The Law of Process – Leadership develops daily, not in a day.

4. The Law of Navigation – Anyone can steer a ship, but it takes a leader to chart the course.

5. The Law of E.F. Hutton – When the real leader speaks people listen.  (This isn’t always first, in fact most often it’s not!)

6. The Law of solid ground – Trust is the foundation of leadership.  Without trust a leader cannot lead at a higher level than they are currently at.

7. The Law of Respect – People naturally follow leaders stronger than themselves.  If you don’t have any followers develop your leadership ability until you do! then don’t stop! keep going!

8. The Law of Intuition – Leaders evaluate everything with a leadership bias.

9. The Law of Magnetism – Who you are is who you attract.  If you want more leaders become one yourself!

10. The Law of Connection – Leaders touch a heart before they ask for a hand.  You must give before you receive, that’s the law of the universe!

11. The Law of inner circle – A Leaders potential is determined by those closest to him.  Your organization should be full of leaders if you are one! If not develop your followers to become leaders themselves.

12. The Law of Empowerment – Only secure leaders give power to others.  In order to empower others you need to be able to give that power away to empower them!

13. The Law of Reproduction – It takes a leader to raise up a leader.  Looking to develop your team to grow quicker? Become a higher level leader.

14. The Law of Buy-in – People buy into the leader then the vision.  Celebrity endorsements are for a reason, they work!

15. The Law of Victory – Leaders find a way for their team to win.  Leaders are victory oriented, they do what it takes to win.

16. The Law of the Big Mo – Momentum is a leaders best friend.  Think of basketball games and how large a role momentum plays in games.

17. The Law of Priorities – Leaders understand that activity is not necessarily accomplishment.

18. The Law of Sacrifice – A leader must give up to go up.  When I read this I understood the difference between quitting and giving up.  “Giving up” is sacrifice to get to where you want to be and quitting is just plain failing.

19. The Law of Timing – When to lead is as important as what to do and where to go.

20. The Law of Explosive growth – To add growth lead followers, To Multiply lead leaders.  This had an impact on my thinking! Why develop followers when you can develop leaders who multiply your growth at a faster rate?

21. The Law of Legacy – A leaders lasting value is measured by succession.  What you leave behind is your leadership or lack of it.  A leader is not a title or position it’s a lasting legacy that continues to lead.

I really loved this book and got a lot out of it.

The thing I loved was “Everything rises and falls on leadership” because it’s so true! Is your organization growing fast or slow? Look at your leadership, or lack thereof and you know what you need to improve on.

I also loved the law of explosive growth.  Developing leaders has it’s dividends and they pay much more than followers! icon wink The 21 Irrefutable Laws Of Leadership Book Review @JohncMaxwell

Hi David,

Funny you should bring this book up. I just finished reading it 2-3 minutes ago LOL. Probably one of the best books on leadership I ever read. Up there with Covey's 8th and 7th habit books. This book jarred my eyes open on what leadership is really all about. There are some great concepts in here like the law of the lid, 4 can only lead 3's and 2's and so on.

This book is an absolute MUST for anyone in business, into personal growth or leadership of any kind. This is the 3rd or 4th John Maxwell book I've read and I get back way more than what I invested in terms of time.

Well, there's lots of notes to look back on after reading this book. Really makes you want to go out there are put them to use, doesn't it?

Glad you're reading stuff like, Maxwell is an all time favorite of mine and I enjoy everything he writes.

Have a great day!
